A Good Leader, A Good Follower (LEADING)

ImageThe youth is the hope of our future.” This is one of the most famous quotes from Dr. Jose P. Rizal, our National Hero.

Youth is really the hope of his nation. But in order to be like this, he has to poses the heart of a good leader.

Brylle Jasfer B. Adufina, a 17-year old student of Baptist Bible College Asia is a working student in Journey Church Philippines and a Full time minister at his young age. He is also handling youths or in short, a leader in their church.

At the age of 14, he was only second year high school at that time; God inspired him to handle young people. They started on two and double and were multiplied up to 250 young people.

I asked him his opinion about what a leader is and he answered “For me, a

Leader is someone who arises in the midst of uncertainty, someone who does the task first and setting up a good example in love, faith and purity. A leader is someone who wisely enough to take the risk in every circumstances and never leave his followers behind.”

According to him, Leadership is not a position it something you earn and learn from your failures, discouragements, disappointments, criticisms, and weaknesses. For you to be called a good leader, you don’t need to be skillful and so potential for you to be called a “leader”. SUBMISSIVE HEART, that’s where it starts, when you know that you are the one who serves and not the one who’s to be served, the one who is first called a follower.

When problem comes on their way, a good leader according to him must do three things. Number one is SIT, or relax sometimes because of pressure and so many decision makings we leaders forget to sit and relax, talking too much and quarreling will not help, try to sleep and after that number two is EAT yes definitely we must eat, it helps a lot. After a stressful and bombarded day, it’s a good thing to eat, it helps us to clear our mind and as a result, we can much analyze the problem and find a better solution on it. And lastly is PRAY, after feeding our physical body and relaxing our mind we should not forget the most important of all that is our spiritual side, above all these God still knows how we can endure hardships and problems in life as a leader we must be dependent to our God, for He surely knows the way and will directly clear our path, as a Proverb says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding…..”

“Fight a good fight, finish the race of leadership,” this is his advice, “I right now is also running the race of leadership, it doesn’t matter if you slow you don’t need to be fast or else you’ll get tired quickly. Let us stay on the process of leading people. It doesn’t matter how many downfalls and brokenness we take, what’s important after it we again stand up and run again. Never be stagnant on the things you’ve already achieve that is only a small part of leading, that is why we should not focus on achievements but rather we focus on our goals, stay on your vision and keep on track. Let’s all win the prize with perseverance and faith, always remember that God is with us in every step we do! Do not be afraid to implement authority. If you are getting hurts, failures, disappointments, criticism and discouragements I tell you everything is normal and natural that is part of the risk we’ve taken as a leader. I am not saying this all because I am a great leader or I am perfect leader, I am saying this all because I’ve been there and always being there, encouraging you to continue to have the burden and passion to lead. I still have failures, big and small but I always make sure I’ve learned something and will apply it. Leadership is a lifestyle, an everyday mindset and a calling that should be responded.”
